Keshan antique silk

This rare rug from the famous workshops of ancient Keshan is a splendid example of timeless beauty and never fading elegance. Despite its high age, due to meticuous weaving of the finest and still radiantly shining natural silk, this piece has survived until today in very good condition. On top, the weaving is done in highly elaborate ‘relief technique’, which bestows a marvellous expression upon the total artwork. Thus, both its brilliant colours and intricate design bear witness to the exceptional nature of this outstandingly beautiful and precious carpet.

The center of the piece shows the classic ‘vase design’. Myriads of flowers and blossoms in the dominant colors blue, gold and pink stand out beautifully against the background of an elegant ivory-cream niche. The whole design is framed by four slim secondary bordures in blue and gold, enclosing a finely crafted and delicately ornamented main bordure the colour of dark red wine.
